   WHEN PICKLEBALL WAS F.U.N.

Remember when we all were first introduced to Pickleball and how much F.U.N. it was? Playing for hours unaware of just how much time had passed. Walking more slowly to the parking lot than when we did as we hurried to the courts to get in our first game, see our friends, catch up and just enjoying the sport? If you do then I have just one question for you to consider. “What Happened?”

F – What happened to everyone being Fair and sharing the limited courts with our many friends? Ensuring that everyone was afforded the opportunity to play. Being honest when asked, hey what’s your score? Not going back to 0 – 0 – 2 just to keep the court longer because someone had the audacity to ask your score.

U – What happened to having Understanding that as our Sport grows, change is inevitable. As more and more players pick up a paddle and walk the same path that we all did, hurriedly getting to the courts for the same reasons we all did and still do. To play, laugh, get exercise and see our friends.

N -  What happened to Noticing when someone new arrived at the courts looking lost and seeking to get integrated into the hustle and bustle of the action on the courts? As we reached out to them to introduce them and welcome them into our Pickleball family. Oh the good old days!

By now you may be asking what is the meaning of or purpose of this blast. Just know that it would not be necessary if these things were not happening or we were all still just having F.U.N. Unfortunately, that is not the case and some of these things have been happening and for some, the F.U.N. once enjoyed is fading.  If you are one that still seeks to ensure that all players are having fun on the courts, thank you! But if you are one that has gone out of your way to take the fun out of the experience of others at the courts, we the PPPA Board of Directors ask that you reflect back on the good old days.  Yes, we have grown. Our numbers have doubled over the past four years, and we will continue to grow as more and more people get bitten by the same picklebug that we all were bitten by.  How we move forward is up to all of us. It’s going to take patience, integrity, honesty, caring and openness to ensure that everyone that picks up a paddle and wanders down to our facility will have the same experience that we all were afforded.  We ask ALL of our Members to take this message to heart and that ALL of us ensure F.U.N. continues to remain the centerpiece of our Sport and this Association.

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”

-Amelia Earhart-
